Until now I’ve avoided politics here, but I can’t keep silent about this. Gay marriage will be good for gays, good for society and good for the institution of marriage. Some kind of newly-minted “domestic partnership,” on the other hand, won’t satisfy those gays who wish to partake in the institution and ritual of marriage, will divide Canadian society and will blur and diminish the institution of marriage. Besides which, unless the government ends all state involvement in marriage, the "domestic partnership" finagle won’t satisfy the charter challenges that brought this issue to the fore in the first place.
I believe marriage is a right of all adult Canadians. I won’t vote for any politician who opposes that right.
