Transplant Preparation
Hello everyone. Mike checked into hospital today. Not quite like checking into a hotel, which we would much rather be doing. Anyhow, chemo starts tomorrow for three days, followed by radiation for three more. On the last day of radiation he gets his new marrow, and then we wait. It takes about three weeks for the marrow to start producing blood cells. He is going to feel very crappy, probably worse than previous rounds as this one is even more intense. He is not going to be able to have visitors for a few weeks as he will be so vulnerable to infection.
It would be great if people would like to send cards, comics, pictures etc. as I can post them in his room and he’ll have something to stare at besides blank walls. After a few weeks and he starts to feel better I’m sure he would love to have some visitors. I’ll keep you posted.
I can’t believe this day is finally here and it is more nerve wracking than I thought. Mike is calm, but understandably freaked. He just wants this all behind him. It’s going to be a long road, with lots of ups and downs. We are ready, but it is major!!
Anyhow, will keep in touch as I have more to say.
