A Donor for Mike
We found out today that they have found a donor for Mike. We are extremely relieved!! We know that the person is a young male from Europe. The donor now has to pass a health check but that is routine and problems are not usually anticipated. He will have the all clear in another week. The marrow is then personally sent by courier to VGH.
Mike goes into hospital on September 19th to receive three days of chemo and three days of radiation to prepare him to receive the marrow. After that he is in hospital for five more weeks during which time he will be very sick and prone to infections.
We are still very positive and look forward to having this behind us. It is like having the weight of the world lifted off our shoulders, let me tell you.
