Mike Report
Hello everyone. Haven’t been writing in lately because there hasn’t been much new to report. I suppose this is a good thing. There still isn’t much too new but I like keeping in touch.
Mike has finished getting the chemo for the second round. He had a few days when he didn’t feel too terrific but that has passed. He still tires easily but has more stamina on some days than others.
He is going to the hospital every second day for blood work. He goes with volunteer drivers part of the time and with me part of the time. The days can be long but they actually go by very quickly. On weekends, we usually bring Kyle with us and he and I escape to parks or do errands so we keep up with some regular things. Kyle has also been a guest at various friends’ houses and this is very appreciated.
At this point, Mike’s blood counts are falling as they are supposed to. It takes about two more weeks to hit bottom and then they start climbing again for another two weeks. After they reach a higher level he will have another biospy to check his state of remission. Then if they have a match, he will get chemo again and then the transplant. If there is no match, he will get the chemo alone.
People can visit if they like. We like visitors and I think company is good for his state of mind and morale. He enjoys getting notes and emails as it makes him feel less ‘out of things’.
Not to worry that he has nothing to do. I’ve got him updating my schools’ website and doing various other computer related things.
We have found out that when his blood counts are down he can still go outside for walks and fresh air. He just needs to limit his exposure to infection causing irritants like construction zones, soil and roofing jobs. Last time he was in that state he didn’t go out of the house at all except to go to the hospital, so a bit more freedom will be nice.
That’s the news for now. Will keep you updated as I can.
